She was born on 12 November 1944 at the Tømte farm in Sørkedalen, Norway.  Her parents were Dagny and Kristian Tømte, and she had 2 brothers (Anton & Reidar) and 1 sister (Astrid).

The farm was little, but enough to feed the family until her father Kristian became sick and had to quit working as a farmer.

That was when mom's brother Reidar took over the farm. Reidar married with Randi and they had 2 children - Mona & Jan.

Mom's brother Anton married first with Astrid (not his sister!), and they had 2 children - Egil & Hanne. His second marriage was with Inger, and they had a son - Rolf.

Mom's sister Astrid married Peder from the nearby Grøttumsbråten farm and they had 2 sons - Terje & Kjell.
