Trip to Stavanger 2006

Talk about 'crossing a river to get water' !

Mom and dad decided to take a trip to Stavanger to buy American butter! Well, that was just half true; they took the trip so that dad could see a little of Norway. And I went too! It was a great trip over mountains and along fjords.

First we went up to Dalen in Telemark, and from there over to Vrådal. When we had to stay overnight there, mom and dad found someone who rented a private cabin, and it was so great that we stayed there for 3 days instead of 1. Mom and dad said afterwards that we might go there again sometime. The only thing I didn’t like was the big dog they had there. It was actually quite nice and a little shy, but I had to be a little scared because it was so big!

Later both mom and dad went swimming in a lake called Nisser. It wasn’t enough that they went swimming, they had to throw me into the water – and you know how I hate water! Well, I dried off very fast – and while mom and dad did some fishing, I played around happy and satisfied.

Up on the mountain I met some other four-legged animals. Lots of sheep and goats! There were some who wanted to come close to meet me, but then I ran back to the car. I liked it best to watch them through the car’s window. Think – they walked in the middle of the road, so all the cars had to wait until they decided to move to the side of the road. Dad tried fishing in many of the lakes we saw while passing over the mountains, but he didn’t catch any fish! We probably weren’t patient enough! One time when we stopped, some sheep came over to meet me. Then I turned and went to the other side of the road to get behind mom. There’s no telling what they would eat with me nearby – and they seemed so big!

We finally arrived in Jåtta and got in to the military base. We were able to finally shop for American food and Jelly Beans for mom, and some other American goods. Then we happily headed back home via the coast road in the rain. There isn’t much to write about that trip. In Sandefjord we took the ferry over to Strømstad in Sweden. (that took almost 3 hours) and from there we were almost home.
